We talked in class about Respect, and gave examples of how we show respect to our peers, our family, and others. Now it’s time to talk about showing respect when playing fun games or sports. We have all been in the position of really wanting to win a game, and sometimes this can be the only focus: to win. However, whether winning (or losing), we can’t lose sight of our behavior, and how to act respectfully.

You chose a question from a list. Write the question down again, and answer as well as you can. Your reply should help others who may (in the future) be placed in the same predicament.

What did you think about the last section in your novel study?

Yes, I know you’re perfect, but everyone needs a ‘little’ improving now and then. Every year, students around the world treat January as a new start. A time to make new friends. To try harder in the classroom. To do or try or make. To act or sing or play. What do you want to do? Read the following resolutions from the website Kid’s Turn Central, and make some comments of your own!

Our third focus in our Character Education program is on CITIZENSHIP. They are aware now that there are a huge number of activities at I.S.B. that promote citizenship, and that even kids their age have the power to make a difference.

Please visit the website, Just Give’s KidsCorner, a special site devoted to kids who have made a difference in the world. Read one of the articles on how kids are helping animals, other children, or the environment, and submit a comment!

International Week is upon us…and has really made me think of how lucky I am to be working in such a diverse environment. Walking down the breezeway into the elementary school, my son will often point out the flags, and how many there are (for each flag, we have at least one student from that country…there must be 30)!

What can you tell me about your culture (where you come from)? How does it make you feel to go to school with so many different students, from so many different backgrounds?

230504281.jpgWhat do you think Cynthia Rylant means when she says, “a wish can be both a blessing and a curse”? What are some stories you know, or ideas that you have, where that would be the case?

possum_cartoon2.gifWe are presently reading Cynthia Rylant’s book The Van Gogh Cafe….an excellent book on magic, and making dreams come true. In Chapter Two, a mysterious possum shows up, hanging upside down from a tree, right outside the window from the cafe.

Do you think the possum’s real purpose was to meet the man? To give him direction in his life? To give it meaning?

Last week we used the laptops to display our knowledge on Southeast Asia and Oceania. Did you like doing your test on the computer? How do you think you did? What would you change about your studying next time?
